One Florida county is using funds from a statewide legal settlement to install vape detectors in schools.
According to court documents, Osceola County Public Schools will receive $400,000 in a JUUL Labs settlement money to fund the detectors.
The funds come from a statewide agreement with JUUL, totaling up to $79 million which addresses the company’s marketing of their vaping products.
Osceola County Commissioners also said the Florida Department of Health in Osceola County will also implement youth vaping prevention and nicotine addiction programs funded by the settlement dollars.
In 2022, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration ordered the company to remove its electronic cigarettes from the market.
