Broward County Public Schools students return to class on Monday, and teachers will have a new tool to help them trigger a staff alert or school lockdown when needed.
Stephanie Saban, the principal at Coral Cove Academy of the Arts, an elementary school in Miramar, said teachers and staff will have a wearable badge with a single button.
“We can’t get to them quickly enough, so this is a way for us to be in real time and able to respond to any kind of emergency,” Saban said.
Thomas Dusch, the BCPS emergency management coordinator, said teachers will wear a neck lanyard with the badge and get training.
The interactive badge is capable of triggering a staff alert if the user pushes the button three times, and a school lockdown if they push it eight times or more.
“The Aliyssa’s alert is the umbrella, and under Alyssa’s alert we have Centegix, the crisis alert badge, and we have saferwatch, so those are our two ways people can notify if there is an alert or crisis on their campus,” Dusch said.
