Broward educators, staff honored at annual Caliber Awards hosted by Local 10’s Eric Yutzy

Broward County Public Schools celebrated excellence in education Friday, recognizing its top educators and staff at the annual Caliber Awards.

The red-carpet event, held at the Broward County Convention Center, was hosted by Local 10 anchor Eric Yutzy and honored more than 500 nominees, culminating in 16 finalists and the year’s top honorees.

The prestigious Teacher of the Year award went to Saima Sanaullah, a science teacher and department chair at Plantation High School. Sanaullah will receive cash and prizes, including a two-year lease on a Honda vehicle, courtesy of Rita and Rick Case Automotive Group.

Other top awards included Principal of the Year for Cormic Priester of Rock Island Elementary School, Assistant Principal of the Year for Anna Koltunova of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, and School/District Employee of the Year for Vanderbilt Carpenter III, a security specialist at Deerfield Beach High School.

“These honorees represent the very best of Broward County Public Schools,” Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn said in a news release on Friday. “Their passion, innovation and unwavering commitment to students inspire excellence across our District.”

More than 1,100 community leaders, educators and supporters attended the celebration, which highlighted leadership, innovation and dedication across the district.
