The International Brain Laboratory, a collaboration between neuroscientists in different cities, released a neural map that they say shows brain activity during decision-making.
Alexandre Pouget, a cofounder of the IBL, said the research involving 139 mice in several labs reached two conclusions: There is widespread electrical activity during decision-making, and expectations prompt choices.
Pouget, a neuroscientist with the University of Geneva, said they used Neuropixels, digital neural probes that can simultaneously monitor thousands of neurons.
The researchers recorded 621,733 neurons and used 699 Neuropixels probe insertions to cover 279 brain areas in the left forebrain and midbrain, and the right hindbrain and cerebellum.
