A 20-year-old teacher at HOPE Academy in Homestead has been accused of engaging in sexual activity with a 14-year-old student that occurred over a span of several months last year, authorities confirmed Friday.
Bryant Caniz-Segovia, a physical education teacher at the K-12 private school, located at 1100 Old Dixie Highway, is facing serious charges after the victim told Miami-Dade deputies that she and the suspect had engaged in “consensual” sexual intercourse on three to four occasions between February and October 2024 at an undisclosed location in the county, according to an arrest report.
Police said the victim also reported that she and Caniz-Segovia also exchanged nude photographs through a social media platform.
Following the victim’s disclosure, detectives with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office located and interviewed Caniz-Segovia.
Authorities said after being read his Miranda rights, Caniz-Segovia made some type of confession, though the details were redacted in the publicly-released report.
Jail records show he is facing two counts of lewd and lascivious battery on a child between 12 and 16 years old.
As of Friday, Caniz-Segovia is being held on a $15,000 bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
